ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
At Pie Ranch Barn & Meadow Dances, we honor that the music and accompanying dance forms have African, Indigenous/Native American, and European ancestral roots. We acknowledge that square dancing was used as a tool of white supremacy in this country (see article) and that the contributions of Black, Brown, and Indigenous peoples to this tradition have often been erased. We are committed to using the space at Pie Ranch to address how to continually work on dismantling oppressive systems. Through dancing together, may we weave together these histories and heal historical harms by building a beloved community where all people feel safe, honored, and able to access joy.
